About CHOICE

CHOICE is an interactive, theatre-based educational program that encourages youth to pursue careers in the healthcare arena. As an added benefit, the program gives students useful information about the availability of healthcare in their community.

The Dilemma
divider bar
Within the schools of many large cities, a certain percentage of students are at risk of engaging in behavior that is nonproductive and potentially dangerous. The challenge is not restricted by institution: these students may be found in private schools, public schools and charter schools.
  • Many of these at-risk students come from fragmented or economically challenged homes.
  • Their access to necessary medical services is often poor.
  • Frequently, they do not see any connection between what they are taught in school and how it might relate to their future careers.
  • Often they are unaware that challenging, productive and attainable careers are available in the healthcare field.

What can be done to change this outcome? The CHOICE program hopes to provide at least one solution to this longstanding dilemma

One Solution

The CHOICE program encourages at-risk students to pursue careers in healthcare, by encouraging awareness of career opportunities and planning that culminate in post-high school and post-college education for healthcare careers.

The project is structured around a series of live theatrical vignettes presented four times a year to students, including one family night presentation. The program complies with, and fully integrates, the established New York State C.D.O.S. (Career Development and Occupational Studies) Learning Standards and metrics.
